Cardiovascular Surgeon Joins Open Heart Surgery Team
Cardiovascular Surgeon Hassan K. Reda, M.D., recently joined MidMichigan Health as the newest member of MidMichigan’s comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, as well as vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. Dr. Reda currently welcomes new patients to his office in Midland where he joins Cardiothoracic Surgeon Robert Jones, M.D.
As a cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Reda specializes in the surgical treatment of conditions and diseases affecting the heart. He treats a wide variety of conditions, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic aneurysms and dissections, heart valve blockages and heart failure.
“I went into the field of medicine after studying mathematics in college because I wanted to find a line of work that would allow me to interact with people,” said Dr. Reda. “I chose cardiac surgery because it was a challenge similar to working with mathematics.”
Before coming to MidMichigan, Dr. Reda practiced at the University of Kentucky in Lexington where he also served as associate professor of surgery for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He completed his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
According to Dr. Reda, the fascinating thing about cardiac surgery is that this field of medicine was forged out of sheer will by the pioneering surgeons to help cardiac patients. Additionally, it is a relatively new field when compared to the other disciplines of medicine. He is most excited about overall advances in heart protection, new options for valve replacements, and most importantly the team approach between cardiologists and cardiac surgeons.
Dr. Reda welcomes new patients to his office located on the campus of MidMichigan Medical Center - Midland in the Towsley Building, 4201 Campus Ridge Drive, Suite 3100.
