Annual Aliferis Memorial Race Raises Funds
Ronald McDonald recently helped kick off the 1 mile run during the 16th annual Aliferis Memorial Race. This year’s event raised more than $20,000, putting the cumulative total up over $425,000. All funds are used locally for student scholarships and technology and patient care initiatives at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.
The Business Relations Committee of the Development Council at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena recently hosted the 16th annual Aliferis Memorial Race. More than two hundred cyclists, runners and walkers of all ages from across the state turned out to participate in one or more of four events.
This year’s event raised more than $20,000, putting the cumulative total up over $425,000. All funds are used locally for student scholarships and technology and patient care initiatives at the Medical Center.
Honorary Chairs Ken and Marie Dully participated in the biking events then passed out medals for the top finishers in each event, as well as trophies for overall top performances. A drawing was also held for two pairs of University of Michigan football game tickets.
The Aliferis Memorial Race was named in memory of longtime Alpena General Hospital Pathologist Peter Aliferis, M.D., in appreciation of his many contributions during his 37 years at the Medical Center and his steadfast dedication to health and wellness. Dr. Aliferis retired in July 2000 and passed away from cancer March 13, 2002.
