The next phase of the Affordable Care Act, effective Oct. 1, provides insurance enrollment counselors to assist those who qualify in Michigan, including Roscommon and Gladwin Counties, in enrolling for insurance. New options for health insurance will be available through the Michigan Health Insurance Marketplace for people who could not previously afford coverage.
The Marketplace is the new website dedicated to helping consumers shop for health insurance plans. MidMichigan Community Health Services, a federally qualified health center serving Roscommon County, has named Christopher Cargill as lead enrollment specialist. Cargill will be supported by a team of five enrollment specialists.
Enrollment specialists offer on-site appointments to help patients and other community members enroll in health insurance through the Marketplace. Both patients and community members qualify for this enrollment counseling service.
Basic facts about the Marketplace:
- All plans must cover doctor visits, hospital stays, preventive care, prescriptions and more.
- Low-cost and free plans are available, and financial help is available based on income.
- No one can be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.
- There is no sales pitch or fine print, just side-by-side comparisons of each plan.
