The 17th Annual Aliferis Memorial Race
About the Race
The Aliferis Memorial Race is open to runners, walkers and bikers of all ages and ability levels. It is named in memory of long-time Alpena Pathologist Peter Aliferis, M.D. Dr. Aliferis earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan and joined the hospital in 1963, serving for many years as the pathologies and laboratory director. He touched the lives of many in our community during his 37-year tenure. This race is a celebration of his steadfast dedication to health and wellness.
Sponsored by the Development Council of the MidMichigan Health Foundation serving Alpena.
All proceeds will benefit the Peter Aliferis Scholarship Fund, the Cancer Center and patient enhancement projects and new technology at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.
Race Day Schedule
6 a.m. - Courtesy Vehicle for Half Marathon Registration and Material Pick-up
7 a.m. - Half Marathon Start
8 a.m. - Bike Race and Bike Tour Start
9 a.m. - 1 Mile Run/Walk Start
9:30 a.m. - 5K Run Start
10:30 a.m. - Awards Ceremony
About Registration & Entry Fees
Registration fees range from $20-$35 based on event. Early registration and multiple entry/team discounts available. All pre-registered participants receive a race shirt. Registration is available on the day of the race beginning at 7 a.m. Runners make pick up race packets at the registration table on race day. No race materials will be mailed.

Train to Run
Want to learn to run or improve your stride, pace and/or endurance? Call Bay Athletic Club at (989) 356-5600 to be part of a three week Train to Run program in August or take action now with a three-pack personal training session. Work one-on-one with a personal trainer who also enjoys running and takes part in races. Feel amazing, confident and proud when the start clock goes off this fall.

Rodney, Emily, Madi and Izzy Szymanski
As a physician assistant and a physical therapist, Rodney and Emily Szymanski know and respect the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle. With daughters Madi and Izzy, they have participated in the Aliferis Race together since 2013. They have tackled both running and biking events offered, and look forward to capping off an active summer at Aliferis. We look forward to seeing which starting line they choose this year!
