On the General Medical Unit we are able to monitor patients on telemetry with a viewable screen at the nurses station and a 24-hour centralized monitor technician to help assist. The nurses have their team of patients, and there are patient care technicians (PCTs) that assist with activities of daily living and other specified tasks. We work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure our patients are getting what they need while in our care and when they go home.

Types of Patient Care

  • Sepsis
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Pneumonia
  • Hypertension
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Teamwork is an essential quality of the Unit as high stress situations arise. The support of coworkers and leadership helps get everyone through a tough situation.

Leadership is supportive of professional development and growth, supporting and encouraging educational opportunities through transition to practice, shared governance, and system-wide quality initiatives. All of these activities are to support staff in making decisions to help improve patient-centered care.
