Biography

Family Medicine Physician Brock Horsley, D.O., provides care to patients of all ages. Dr. Horsley owned and managed an independent practice for more than10 years before joining MidMichigan Health. He works with a wide range of patients, treats and manages both acute and chronic conditions, and performs minor surgical procedures.

“I have always been fascinated by the life sciences and the miracle of the human body,” Dr. Horsley said. “That’s one reason I chose a career in medicine. I particularly enjoy family medicine. I like getting to know a variety of people and treating a variety of conditions.” Dr. Horsley has a special place in his heart for his older patients. “They are incredibly interesting. Life experience has taught them a lot and they have a lot of wisdom to offer.” He also enjoys seeing children in the “Nemo” room in his office.

Philosophy of Care

“I like to say I run an old-fashioned practice that uses state-of the-art technology,” Dr. Horsley said. He works hard to make people comfortable, even creating a physical environment that is cozy and calm, not intimidating. “I want patients to feel at ease so they open up and share. I have good relationships with my patients because I spend the time to get to know them personally; I don’t just go through the motions of practicing medicine.”

Whether dealing with preventative care, managing a chronic condition or treating acute injury or disease, Dr. Horsley said it is vital to learn as much as possible about each person he treats. “In addition to understanding someone’s physical health, it’s important to understand their emotional health and even family dynamics,” he said. “That’s why establishing a high comfort level with me is so important. I want my patients to be comfortable talking to me about anything, and asking me anything.”

With an easy-going and welcoming demeanor, Dr. Horsley is easy to talk to. However, he also has an intensity and drive that serves his patients well. “Whether a patient is trying to manage their blood pressure or diabetes, or dealing with anxiety or depression, working together we can improve their quality of life,” he said.

In his spare time Dr. Horsley enjoys golf, woodworking and flea markets; most of all he enjoys spending time with his family whether camping, boating or simply being together. Dr. Horsley and his wife, Donna, have close ties to the Clare area. “I enjoy rural medicine and small town life,” he said. “I started my practice here, we raised our three sons here, and I plan to stay here.”
