Eric Kreckman is a certified physician assistant who specializes in family medicine. He works with Family Medicine physician Marcelino Barreto, M.D., and sees patients of all ages. Eric also works in general surgery once a week.

“Family medicine offers a good mix of people and gives me the opportunity to establish relationships with patients,” he said. “I love talking to people and getting to know my patients.”

Philosophy of Care

“I believe the best communication will help people gain the best care,” Eric said. “I want patients to talk to me and tell me what they need and tell me what their goals are. For instance, I need them to tell me, ‘I want this hip to stop hurting’ or ‘I want to get my cholesterol under control.’ Then we can work together to help them meet their goals.”

While patients share honest answers to necessary questions, Eric listens closely and respectfully. “By far, the best diagnostic tools I have available are my ears,” he said. “Most of the time patients tell me what’s wrong if I just listen closely. I’m very honest with patients and I think that sets the stage to help them be straightforward with me. I don’t get caught up in the rush of unimportant things. I spend the necessary time with each and every patient. I explain things to people in as much detail as they want and I answer all their questions.”

He encourages patients to talk about their hopes and dreams as well as their fears and challenges. “I always start out by getting to know my patients,” Eric said. “The more I know about patients, the more insight I have into their health and the obstacles they may face. If I find out they cannot handle taking medication four times a day, I’ll still treat them; we can still work together. We’ll just find a different route.”

Eric has an engaging personality and a positive outlook that inspires others. “I wake up in a good mood and go home the same way because I love what I do,” he said. “The best part of my job is when I see people making changes and making progress. It makes my day.”

A longtime Gladwin resident, Eric is active in his community. He was a founding member of the Gladwin Downtown Development Authority and the Gladwin Education Foundation, was president of the Gladwin Rotary Club, served on the Board of Directors at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gladwin, and has volunteered his time for a variety of other leadership positions for MidMichigan Health and MidMichigan Community College. Eric has two adult children and enjoys traveling, hunting, fishing and a variety of sports including snowboarding and basketball.
