Janet Beattie is a board-certified advanced nurse practitioner with MidMichigan Health and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, as well as vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. Janet specializes in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. She specializes in working with cardiovascular surgery patients and works in collaboration with Cardiovascular Surgeons Robert Jones, M.D. and Michelle Ellis, M.D.

“I find the science of medicine always exciting and never the same for any one patient,” said Janet, who has more than 20 years of experience in nursing, teaching, research and health care management. “I had the opportunity to work in cardiovascular research and coronary care earlier in my career and was excited to return to it. Cardiothoracic care continues to evolve. There have been many advances for higher risk patients and we now have surgical options for patients who, in the past, could only be treated with long-term medical therapy.”

Philosophy of Care

“I believe every patient deserves the same care that each of us would provide for our own families,” Janet said. “Each patient deserves all of my attention, talent and compassion.” She said the atmosphere at the Medical Center is a perfect fit for her.

“I have never been in an environment that was so caring not only for their patients but for their employees as well.”

Educating her patients is important to Janet. “I feel that patients and families will always do better with education,” she said. “For them, education is power and in the hospital, they feel a loss of control. Even in this fast paced setting, they deserve my time and attention for as long as they need to feel comfortable.”

Janet said the most satisfying aspect is of her work is seeing patients afew weeks after their surgery. “It is fun to see them come into the office having returned to some of their normal routine,” she said. “They are always excited to be able to move forward.”

Janet and her husband, Michael, raised their two sons in Bay City and the couple still lives there, with their dog Roscoe. In her spare time, Janet enjoys a variety of creative pursuits including designing costumes for local theater groups, quilting, scrapbooking and card making - but mostly spending time with her granddaughter Genevieve.
