Positron Emission Tomography, or PET scanning, is one of the most advanced imaging tests available today. The test combines PET and CT (computerized tomography) images, to produce a traditional three-dimensional X-ray of the internal body structures allowing better evaluation and visualization of your body.

The PET scanner detects which cells in your body are using a large amount of sugar and then interprets this information to show areas of increased metabolic activity. Since cancers are overactive cells, the PET scanner is an excellent tool for determining if a suspicious area is cancerous or benign. It can also identify if cancer has spread to other locations, something not always possible with traditional X-rays.

Which Entrance/Where to Park

There is a canopy drop off area in front of the Orchard Entrance for patients. Visitor parking is located in front of the Orchard Entrance and the MidMichigan Medical Offices-Midland entrance. When entering the Orchard Entrance, there is an apple orchard scene painted on the walls. Proceed straight down the hall until reaching the end of the hall or a set of double doors. Turn left, pass Radiology and turn right at the next hall. The PET Scan offices are located just past the pop machines on the left side of the hall.

Driving Directions to Orchard Building at MidMichigan Medical Center - Midland

From Clare, Gladwin, Houghton Lake, Sanford or Coleman
Take U.S. 10 east to Midland, and exit at Eastman Road. On the exit ramp, get in the center lane and turn left at the traffic light onto Wackerly Road. Go to the next traffic light and turn right onto Eastman Road. Take Eastman Road approximately 1.5 miles. Turn right at the first traffic light after McDonald's restaurant, onto Saginaw Road. On Saginaw Road, go to the second stoplight and turn left onto Orchard Drive (there is a sign for the Medical Center Emergency Room on the corner). Take the first right onto McCandless Drive. Turn left at the sign that says "Orchard Building."

From Bay City or Saginaw
Take westbound U.S. 10 to Midland and exit at Eastman Road. On the exit ramp, get in the center lane and turn left at the traffic light onto Eastman Road. Take Eastman Road approximately 1.5 miles. Turn right at the first traffic light after McDonald's restaurant, onto Saginaw Road. On Saginaw Road, go to the second stoplight and turn left onto Orchard Drive (there is a sign for the Medical Center Emergency Room on the corner). Take the first right onto McCandless Drive. Turn left at the sign that says "Orchard Building."

From Mt. Pleasant
Take M-20 east into Midland. Immediately after crossing the Tittabawassee River, there is a stop light. Proceed straight ahead to the third stoplight, and turn left. This becomes Eastman Road. Continue on Eastman Road to the third stoplight and turn left onto Saginaw Road (Garber Chevrolet is on the corner). On Saginaw Road, go to the second stoplight and turn left onto Orchard Drive (there is a sign for the Medical Center Emergency Room on the corner). Take the first right onto McCandless Drive. Turn left at the sign that says "Orchard Building."

From Freeland
Take M-47 north to Midland. When the freeway ends, exit right onto Westbound U.S. 10. Then follow directions above for people traveling from Bay City or Saginaw.

From MBS International Airport
Exit the airport parking lot and turn right (north) onto Garfield Road. Upon reaching the expressway, go over the overpass and turn left onto westbound U.S. 10. Then follow the directions above for people coming from Bay City or Saginaw.

From Hemlock
Traveling east on Gratiot Road (M-46), turn left at the stop light onto North Hemlock Road. Proceed north 4.5 miles; Hemlock Road becomes South Sasse Road. Travel an additional 3 miles on South Sasse Road to the flashing light at Freeland Road. Turn left onto Freeland Road and travel 1.0 miles west to the four-way stop. Turn right onto Poseyville Road and travel 6 miles. Continue traveling on Poseyville Road over the bridge. At the third traffic light, turn left on East Indian Street. After one mile, the road curves and becomes Eastman Road. Continue on Eastman Road to the third stoplight and turn left onto Saginaw Road (Garber Chevrolet is on the corner). On Saginaw Road, go to the second stoplight and turn left onto Orchard Drive (there is a sign for the Medical Center Emergency Room on the corner). Take the first right onto McCandless Drive. Turn left at the sign that says "Orchard Building."
