Animal Lover and Cardiology Patient

“Thanks
to Dr. Diehl, I can still do everything I want to do.”

"Keep moving and never give up!"
Mary Farlow has been a patient of Interventional Cardiologist Rodney Diehl, D.O., since October 2008, a time she remembers all too well.
“I almost died that day,” Mary said. “I started having terrible chest pain and went by ambulance to the emergency room. I just happened to get Dr. Diehl and I’m so glad I did.”
Mary, 59, had undergone two previous heart by-pass procedures in 1997 and 2004. This time, one of the replacement arteries was blocked. Dr. Diehl implanted several stents in the artery so that blood flow was restored.
“Dr. Diehl saved my life,” Mary said. “I’ve had other cardiologists and he has them all beat.”
While Mary deeply appreciates and admires Dr. Diehl’s surgical skill, it was the after care he provided that won her loyalty. “He was wonderful,” she said. “He came to see me every day while I was in the hospital after the surgery.”
Mary still sees Dr. Diehl on a regular basis. “He truly cares about his patients,” she said. “He treats us like friends, not just patients. I don’t get all stressed out when I go there and when I leave his office, I have a smile on my face. He just treats me so well.”
Other health issues have impacted Mary’s life. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis after her first heart surgery and also has osteoarthritis. “The arthritis is the worst,” she said. “The key thing is don’t give up. I just keep on moving and keep on walking. Dr. Diehl is really encouraging of that. So many people just give up. I can’t. I won’t.”
Mary and her fiancée, Lynn, care for several pets including two horses, two dogs, a goat and a number of cats. “We also have a rooster who thinks he’s a cat and crows all day long,” she laughed. Mary also enjoys fishing, hunting and riding a quad runner over their 40 acres of land.
“Thanks to Dr. Diehl, I can still do everything I want to do,” she said. “I’d recommend Dr. Diehl to anybody.”
