Digital Mammography

Digital mammography is a new technology for detecting breast cancer. A digital mammogram is taken the same way as a traditional film-screen mammogram, using breast compression and low-energy X-ray beams. The resulting digital image can be enlarged, highlighted and analyzed with software, as well as stored and transmitted electronically. In addition, each mammogram is double checked by the R2 ImageChecker which allows the radiologist to re-examine suspicious areas on the mammogram to determine if they need further evaluation.

Digital mammography has been shown to be more accurate in:

  • Women under 50 years of age
  • Women who have not yet gone through menopause
  • Women of any age who have dense breast tissue

MidMichigan Health is pleased to offer this advanced technology as part of our ongoing commitment to women's health.

Consult with your primary care provider to determine which type of mammography is best suited to your individual needs, and to obtain an order for a mammogram.
