At MidMichigan Health, we believe that employee wellness is important for three reasons: First, we want our employees to enjoy a long, healthy life. Second, we believe healthier employees are more productive and provide better care to our patients. Finally, helping our employees live healthy lives also helps all of us manage rising health care costs.
WellPath, our employee wellness commitment, provides a variety of classes, screenings, tools and encouragement to help employees on the journey of lifelong wellness. These include:
Mayo Clinic EmbodyHealth Portal – In cooperation with Mayo Clinic, MidMichigan Health offers our employees access to a Web site with a wide range of information and tools to maintain and improve their health. The site includes:
- Online Health Risk Assessment (HRA)
- Symptom checker
- First aid guide
- Tools to manage chronic conditions
- Health calculators and self-assessments
- Screening guidelines by age and gender
- Exercise journal
- Health information library
- Advice on fitness, nutrition, weight management, tobacco use and other topics

Fitness Centers – MidMichigan employees have access to on-site exercise facilities in Alma, Clare, Gladwin and Midland. Contact the Wellness Coordinator or your Human Resources representative for pricing and other details.
WellTrac® Health Coaching – Designed for employees with higher body mass indices (BMI) and other risk factors, the WellTrac health coaching program is being conducted in 2008 as a clinical trial exclusively for MidMichigan employees. The goals are reduced BMI, waist circumference, triglycerides, and blood pressure, as well as positive changes in HDLs (good cholesterol) and fasting blood sugar. Qualified employees receive free clinical testing and incentives for participation.
Wellness Education Classes & Events – MidMichigan employees have the opportunity to attend a variety of wellness and exercise classes offered on a regular basis, in addition to education through our online education system, NetLearning. Seasonal promotional events encourage individuals and teams to get involved in walking, bicycling and other activities that encourage a healthy, less sedentary lifestyle.
Screenings – MidMichigan Health offers a free, yearly clinical screening and risk assessment to employees. Those participating earn a discount on their health insurance premiums. Other specialized screenings are also offered periodically throughout the year, and employees are also encouraged to participate in classes and screenings which MidMichigan offers to the community.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – The EAP program at MidMichigan is designed to help employees with life’s challenges. Professional and confidential help is available at no cost for such things as:
- Family and relationship problems
- Job stress
- Parenting concerns
- Grief and loss
- Alcohol or drug problems
- Negative feelings such as depression, anxiety or confusion
- Workplace conflict
The program provides confidential, short-term counseling for MidMichigan Health employees or members of their households, and also offers referrals to other community resources.
