As a Mentor for at-risk children, John organized and directed afterschool programs at three sites in Flint. His goal was to provide a safe learning and play environment where kids could develop respect for themselves and for others as well as build a sense of community togetherness. While attending grad school, John joined the Hunger elimination project and was part of an effort to feed people living in the tunnels of the New York subway system. He also worked as a professional ski instructor. John took part in the Great Wall of China Marathon, running on and along the Great Wall, in both China and Mongolia, which he says was an incredible experience. He enjoys rock climbing and traveling, and he is a huge Pearl Jam fan.

Sarah KielSarah Kiel

Sarah worked as an assistant in medical records and a medical assistant at Partners in Family Health. She volunteered at The Listening Ear, a local crisis center, for two years. For the past three years, Sarah worked as a clerical assistant for the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine Statewide Campus Systems, where she helped organize educational conferences for osteopathic residents in Michigan. Sarah has two dwarf hamsters, Pudge and Marbles. She swam competitively for ten years, loves water sports, and wants to take up kite surfing. Sarah was president of the MSU Fencing Club for two years, and the women’s foil squad captain for three years. She loves reading, music, movies and playing the piano and viola. Sarah has traveled quite a bit and lived in Italy for three years as a child.

Andrew MullallyAndrew Mullally

BA, Biology, Ave Maria University

Jeddo, MI

Andrew worked as a research assistant on a study of reverse transcriptase inhibition assays. He developed and conducted his own research study to observe unhealthy lifestyles habits among middle school students. The data from this study was used to create a program that encourages healthy lifestyles, and was later incorporated into the school district core curriculum. Andrew presented the results of the study at the National Diabetes Education and Prevention Council in Atlanta. During college, he worked as a residence assistant and security officer. Andrew had the opportunity to do mission work in Juarez, Mexico that greatly influenced his decision to become a physician. He enjoys traveling, soccer, history, and politics.
