Advanced Cardiac Imaging Specialist Joins MidMichigan
Cardiologist and Advanced Cardiac Imaging Specialist Susan M. Sallach, M.D., has joined MidMichigan Physicians Group as a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team at MidMichigan Health. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists, as well as vascular and open heart surgeons. This comprehensive team cares for patients with a variety of conditions such as coronary heart disease, heart attack, congestive heart failure, congenital heart disease, heart rhythm disorders, peripheral vascular disease and other conditions affecting the heart and circulatory system.
Dr. Sallach received her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. She completed her residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and went on to complete fellowships in cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.
She brings more than eight years of cardiology experience to her patients, offering expertise in advanced cardiac testing and disease management. As a cardiologist, Dr. Sallach works with patients who have a variety of cardiac-related conditions such as coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, heart failure, structural and valvular heart disease, peripheral vascular disease and other complex cardiac conditions. Additionally, she holds a special interest in adult congenital heart disease, as well as the symptoms and risks of heart-related problems unique to women and that can occur during pregnancy.
“I chose the specialty of cardiology because I feel it is an area of medicine where I can have the biggest impact on patient care,” said Dr. Sallach. “While heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women, it is both preventable and controllable. It is also an area of medicine in which the methods of treatment are very evidence based.”
Dr. Sallach believes in educating her patients to make sure that they understand the “why” behind her decisions to recommend particular tests, medications or procedures. “My goal is to make sure that my patients are not only educated about their condition but are also involved in the decision making process,” she said. “We are a team and based on the available information, my job is to help my patients understand their heart condition, make recommendations regarding treatment options and then work collaboratively with them to decide the course of treatment that is best for them.”
Dr. Sallach is on the medical staff at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. She sees cardiology patients at her main office located at 301 W. Wackerly Street in Midland, and her satellite office in Freeland at MidMichigan Health Park–Freeland, 5694 Midland Road (M-47).
