Vascular Surgeon Joins Heart and Vascular Team at MidMichigan

Vascular Surgeon Omar P. Haqqani, M.D., joins MidMichigan Health’s comprehensive heart and vascular team which includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists and thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. He is currently accepting new vascular patients at his main office located at 160 E. Warwick Drive in Alma and his satellite office in Midland located at 301 W. Wackerly Street.
He received his medical degree from St. George’s School of Medicine and completed a general surgery residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Dr. Haqqani obtained further training through the completion of a fellowship in vascular surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Mass.
“As a dedicated vascular surgeon, my philosophy of care is for preservation of life and limb while battling aggressive effects of atherosclerosis throughout the vascular system,” said Dr. Haqqani. “I constantly strive to improve the functional outcomes of my patients through continued development of open and endovascular techniques with an emphasis on limb sparing surgical techniques. Current state-of-the-art vascular surgery is centered around treatment of the entire patient and it is with constant collaboration among affiliated experts that we can achieve the best possible results for our patients and their families.”
Dr. Haqqani’s clinical, professional and academic interests focus on the natural history of peripheral arterial and venous diseases, as well as vascular disease treatment outcomes, education, economics and epidemiology. His research interests focus on aortic and carotid disease, novel therapeutics for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms and quality improvement measures. He has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and textbooks and is the 2011 Deterling Award Winner in Vascular Surgery, as well as the recipient of the 2011 Society of Vascular Surgery (SVS) National Research Award in Vascular Surgery. Dr. Haqqani currently serves as an Executive Council Member for the Accreditation Council for Surgical Quality.
As a vascular surgeon, he offers specialty medical services in operative and nonoperative treatment of arterial, venous and lymphatic diseases. He has special interest in the treatment of lower extremity occlusive disease, complex aortic aneurysm disease, carotid disease, venous disease and Raynaud’s Syndrome. In addition, Dr. Haqqani offers treatment using endovascular techniques such as angioplasty to improve walking and stents for thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm disease.
