Five Award-Winning Michigan Artists Display Quilts in Healing Arts Gallery
The Aussome Study Group, comprised of five award-winning Michigan artists, are displaying an array of quilts in the Healing Arts Gallery located in MidMichigan Medical Center–Midland through Friday, Aug. 10.
Mary Andrews, Lois Ann Fulton, Karen Kiley Olson, Robbie Payne and Carol Tamasiunas are the artists who make up the Aussome Study Group. Individually they are award-winning artists whose work has been commissioned, appeared in print, and been juried into shows and galleries here and abroad.
“Inspired by the Masters” is the title of their exhibit that consists of 36, 16-inch by 20-inch flat art quilts. These quilts were influenced by the work of seven famous master artists in art history, including Vincent van Gogh and Georgia O’Keeffe.
The Healing Arts Gallery is located in the lower level of MidMichigan Medical Offices–Midland on the campus of the Medical Center. Exhibit hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. There is no admission fee.
MidMichigan in Midland is one of only a few medical centers in Michigan that has established an art gallery that showcases artists on a regular basis for month-long exhibits. The Healing Arts Gallery was constructed through the generosity of donor funds. The Gallery provides an oasis of calm and creativity where visitors, patients and families can find relief from stress and anxiety that can be associated with health care. It also offers a restful and comforting environment that assists in the healing process. MidMichigan Health Park-Mt. Pleasant, located at 4851 E. Pickard Street in Mt. Pleasant, also contains a Healing Arts Gallery in conjunction with Art Reach of Mid Michigan.
