Auxiliary Supports Equipment & Renovation, Installs New Officers
The MidMichigan Medical Center–Gladwin Auxiliary recently presented a $25,000 donation to the Medical Center. The monies will support the relocation and renovation of the Medical Center’s Chapel, and the purchase of a video laryngoscope for the Medical Center’s Emergency Department.
A video laryngoscope facilitates a patient’s intubation by providing a clear, real-time view of the airway and of the endotracheal tube placement. The equipment is also helpful when treating patients with blood and secretions in the airway due to trauma and other medical conditions. Monies for the donation were raised through a variety of efforts, including the Medical Center’s Love Light Trees campaign; Doe Day Golf Outing; book, uniform and candy sales; quilt raffle, and Gift Shop sales.
The MidMichigan Medical Center–Gladwin Auxiliary also installed new officers for fiscal year 2011-2012. With 92 members currently, the Auxiliary has provided more than 40 years of volunteer service to the Medical Center.
Elected to the executive board were Gladwin residents Jan Stewart, president and Auxiliary member for four years; Dorothy Mowry, vice president and Auxiliary member for 20 years; Mary Griffore, secretary and Auxiliary member for 15 years; and JoAnne Cameron, treasurer and Auxiliary member for 15 years. Additional board members include Norma Agar, Mabel Beebe, Chris Christman, Jeanne Durham, Karen Eighmy, Dolores Johnson, Bob, LaFontaine, Jo Lesperance, Joyce Orban, Joyce Ann Thompson, Carol Urbain, Ruth Welch and Elaine Young.
Each year, the Auxiliary donates more than 10,000 hours of service to the Medical Center. These volunteer hours include operating the Medical Center’s Gift Shop and participating in health promotion activities, including local community health screenings and health fairs, Tot Tours for elementary students, and community disaster drills.
