Lights of Love
Lights of Love Celebration Honors Loved Ones
The holiday season is a time of tradition. Here in Mid-Michigan and across the country, families gather together for elaborate dinners in honor of Thanksgiving. Just a few weeks later families gather again to celebrate Christmas, Hanukah and other traditions through the giving and receiving of gifts. Then, within days, many gather together once more to reflect on the year that has passed and to look forward with hope to the one that has just begun.
In all of these celebrations there are family and friends who are missing. Whether they have passed away recently or have been absent from the family for many years, the holidays are a time to remember them and their life.
Hospitals often are a place where families say their final good-bye to a loved one. The role of comfort and support is one that physicians, nurses and other staff are both honored and humbled by.
MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot and its Auxiliary mark each holiday season in early December with a Lights of Love celebration. Lights of Love is an opportunity to gather as a community to commemorate all of those who were such an important part of so many holidays. The celebration includes a Memorial Scroll, the lighting of the Medical Center’s Christmas tree, refreshments and entertainment.
Honoring Loved Ones
If you would like to honor a loved one in the Memorial Scroll this year, download a Lights of Love Memorial Gift card and mail it to MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot. It is a wonderful time to share a picture of your loved one with others. If you are interested in the display, please clearly identify the people in the picture and mail it along with the Memorial Card. These pictures will be available for you reclaim at the Lights of Love ceremony.
